Selectmen Minutes Public Hearing 10/13/05
Traffic Flow Public Hearing

Present:  Selectmen Brooks, Rainier and Dumas

Others present: Administrative Assistant, Deb Davidson, several residents (sign-in sheet attached)

Selectman Rainier discussed why this hearing is being held is a result of a letter the Selectmen received from a resident expressing concern of safety at Mt. & Gulf Road.  The resident had a near accident at this location and would like a stop sign installed. Selectman Rainier read a letter from resident, Gil Bliss – Mr. Bliss does not believe the Mt. Rd area needs a stop sign.

Selectman Rainier asked Chief Giammarino his opinion, Chief Giammarino indicated he believes it is a great idea to put a stop sign at the Mt. Road location.

Selectman Rainier asked if it is reasonable to mow or cut brush back in that area, making for better visual ability. Road Agent, Fox stated yes, but it is mostly on private property, he can’t mow private property. Resident, Greg Martus does cut the brush back with permission from the property owner, however it does grow back rather quickly.  Road Agent Fox felt stop on the Russell Station Road would be a better location and leave a yield on Mt. Rd.

Greg Martus indicated lines might be a good idea for safety reasons.  It is a dangerous location for children waiting for school busses.

Duffy stated he will paint a line and will also install a warning sign, to keep people notified of a stop ahead.

Thomas Road & Blanchard Hill  – stop signs have been installed and this hearing is a house keeping matter.

Selectmen thanked everyone for attending this public hearing.  With no further discussion the hearing adjourned at 7:00 pm.
